Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized during a congressional delegation trip abroad, according to her office

Democratic Rep. Nancy Pelosi, 84, was hospitalized while a congressional delegation was traveling abroad, her office said Friday.

“During a trip with a bipartisan congressional delegation to Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury while on official duty and was hospitalized for evaluation,” her spokesman Ian Krager said in a statement.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent care from doctors and medical professionals,” the statement said. “She continues to work and regrets that she cannot participate in the remaining CODEL events to honor the courage of our soldiers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our country’s history.”

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and thanks the people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe,” Krager added.

According to House Speaker Mike Johnson, 18 House members are part of the delegation. They were scheduled to attend commemorations on Friday and Saturday marking the anniversary of the decisive battle in World War II.

Other lawmakers on the trip include Republican Rep. Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Democratic Rep. Mark Takano, ranking member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.

Pelosi won re-election to her California seat in November, securing a landmark 20th term.

Although Pelosi stepped down from leadership in 2022 after Republicans gained control of the House, Pelosi remains a key Democratic power player. She worked behind the scenes to urge President Joe Biden to drop out of the 2024 race after his appearance in the CNN debate, ABC News reported at the time.

Pelosi later said Biden’s delayed departure was a key factor in Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss to President-elect Donald Trump.
