Alabama sophomore running back enters the transfer portal

According to Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports, Alabama running back Justice Haynes has entered the transfer portal.

Haynes rushed for 448 yards and seven touchdowns on 79 attempts at 5.7 yards per carry this season. He shared the backfield with junior running back Jam Miller, who had 135 rushing runs, and there are currently no signs that he will declare for the 2025 NFL Draft or remain in Tuscaloosa for another year.

Haynes is Alabama’s 12th player to enter the transfer portal, joining quarterback Dylan Lonergan’s defensive linemen Jeheim Oatis and Hunter Osborne, edge rusher Keanu Koht, cornerback Jahlil Hurley, wide receivers Kobe Prentice, Caleb Odom and Kendrick Law and the Offensive linemen Miles McVay and Naquil Betrand and tight end Danny Lewis Jr.

Alabama now has just five running backs for next season: Jam Miller, Richard Young, Daniel Hill, Kevin Riley and Akylin Dear.

Haynes was a highly touted four-star recruit out of Buford in Roswell, Georgia, as the 5-foot-10, 220-pound consensus ranked running back in the 2023 class, the No. 2 prospect in the state Georgia and the No. 33 prospect in the country at the time of his commitment to Alabama on July 17, 2022.

Haynes’ commitment was significant as he chose the Crimson Tide over Georgia – a program he was expected to attend. Verron Haynes, Justice’s father, was a Bulldog running back from 1999 to 2001 and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fifth round of the 2002 NFL Draft.

The transfer portal officially opened on Monday and closes on Thursday, December 28th. The Spring Portal window remains open, opening on Wednesday, April 16th and closing on Friday, April 25th.
