CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina’s gymnastics team was ranked 36th in the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association preseason poll by a vote of committee members, the organization announced ahead of the 2025 season.

This is the 10th time the Tar Heels have achieved a preseason ranking since 2001 and the fourth consecutive season under their head coach Danna Durante.

The upcoming 2025 campaign will be UNC’s second year competing in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Gymnastics became the league’s 28th sponsored sport a season ago, and now six teams join Cal and Stanford in offering the sport.

Carolina is eager to build on recent success. Last year, the Tar Heels posted their season-high 196.65 on Feb. 16, the eighth-highest team score in program history. They achieved four team scores of 196.0+ and 18 spins of 49.0+.

The Tar Heels finished third at the 2024 ACC Championships, their first conference championship in 40 years. Lali Dekanoidze was the absolute conference champion on the uneven bars and she, along with Isabelle Schäferqualified for the NCAA Regionals and earned All-ACC First Team honors. Four gymnasts were named to the All-ACC championship team.

UNC officially begins its second ACC season on Jan. 10 on the road at Alabama before playing at home against George Washington on Jan. 17. All five of Carolina’s home games are played at Carmichael Arena.
