Malcom in the Middle is coming back to TV screens with a reboot set for Disney+.

The streaming service announced four new episodes in a series of posts on Instagram, writing: “They’re back!” in the caption.

Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek will reprise their lead roles in the Disney+ show.

According to Variety, which cited the show’s official logline, the show will follow Malcom (Muniz) and his daughter as they “get drawn into the chaos of the family” when his parents Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand that Malcom takes part in the show 40th wedding anniversary celebration.

Original series creator Linwood Boomer was involved in the reboot and will serve as writer and executive producer, Variety reported. No premiere date has been set.

The original series aired on Fox from 2000 to 2006 and consisted of a total of 151 episodes. It won seven Emmy Awards during its six-year run.

“’Malcolm in the Middle’ is a groundbreaking sitcom that captures the essence of family life with humor, heart and sensitivity,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, according to Variety.

“His hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of an endearingly chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we are thrilled to welcome back the original cast to bring this magic back to life,” Davis continued. “With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will deliver all the laughs, pranks and mayhem fans love – along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”

In the Disney+ Instagram post, Cranston and Kaczmarek could be seen shouting “Malcom!” In response, Muniz says, “Yes. I hear you. I’m coming!”

In a separate slide, Cranston noted that it has been 25 years since the original version of the show first aired and said he was so excited for the reboot that he “may have peed. Just a bit.”

Muniz said he’s been waiting for this moment for 18 years – since the show’s series finale – and he’s looking forward to finding out what Malcom and his family are up to these days.

Kaczmarek also shared her enthusiasm and said: “What a joy that I can shout at the child again!”
