“Almost Lost My Face”: When OG Maco Talked About His Battle With “Skin-Eating Disease.”

Rapper OG Maco was hospitalized Thursday with a gunshot wound to the head. TMZ reported that police responded to a 911 call in the Los Angeles area after a neighbor heard a gunshot coming from inside a home. Authorities believe the incident may have been a suicide attempt.

Meanwhile, old videos have resurfaced in which Maco revealed that he had been suffering from a “skin-eating disease” called necrotizing fasciitis, which he contracted after being improperly treated for a rash.

On Instagram Stories in March 2019, the Atlanta native shared photos that showed scabs covering much of his face and scalp.

“Thanks to God and my doctors, there has been so much healing that I’m ready to show everyone a fraction of what I’ve been through,” Maco wrote over a photo. “I was treated improperly for a mild rash and have been suffering from a skin-eating disease for the past few months.”

“This is the best it’s ever looked. I hope it gives someone hope,” he added.

Maco later said that he fought the disease largely without support.

“I went through this alone 90% of the time, without the support of the person I love, without most of my ‘friends,’ without anything but my own strength and God,” Maco wrote on Instagram. “Girlfriends/lovers will leave you behind in the worst case scenario. Friendship is often just a word. Actions are everything. Believe in those who show you actions worth believing in.”

In a separate video, Maco revealed the severity of his condition, sharing that he almost lost his face completely.

“I’ve been going through this for about three months and everyone I thought I could really rely on wasn’t there. People that I gave all my love to – everything I wanted just didn’t show up and that made me not really trust anyone or believe in anything,” Maco said.

“I was very scared, I didn’t know what was going to happen, I didn’t know if I was going to lose all of my face – I almost did. Necrotizing – or any kind of flesh-eating bacteria, if you ever get one, just keep the faith (and) follow the regimen your doctors prescribe,” he added.

Maco is best known for his 2014 viral hit “U Guessed It.”
