Manchester United vs Bodo/Glimt LIVE: Latest updates as Ruben Amorim takes charge of first home game

Manchester United are aiming for their first win under Ruben Amorim as their new coach takes charge at Old Trafford for the first time.

The hosts welcome Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in Amorim’s first Europa League game at Old Trafford in a bid to get their stuttering season back on track. While the Portuguese manager’s opening game against Ipswich brought with it a new system and approach, many of the same mistakes that led to Erik ten Hag’s sacking remained evident as Manchester United squandered an early lead to take it at Portman Road to keep.

Their guests begin tonight’s fifth round of this revamped league phase with a one-point lead over Amorim’s side, but may have their eyes on Sunday’s crucial Eliteserien game against relegated Lillestrom. The win there secures a fourth title in five years for the club, which plays its home games inside the Arctic Circle, and should therefore have no concerns about a cool evening in Manchester.

Ruben Amorim laughed at pop star Ed Sheeran crashing his Ipswich interview when the Manchester United manager said Roy Keane was the “real star”.

The 39-year-old led the Red Devils to Portman Road on Sunday for his first game since succeeding Erik ten Hag as head coach.

Marcus Rashford’s early opener was canceled out in the 1-1 draw at Ipswich, where Amorim’s live post-match interview with Sky Sports was interrupted by Sheeran.

Ruben Amorim’s debut at Old Trafford brings with it a burning question for Manchester United

For a week, Ruben Amorim served as a crash course in Manchester United management. There was hope and disappointment, the bright start at Ipswich and the disappointing draw of a side led by a team with less talent, acquired for lesser means. It gave the first hint of how bright the spotlight shines, the mix of football and celebrity United tends to attract.

Before Amorim won, he received an apology from Ed Sheeran after the pop star canceled his post-match interview at Portman Road. It wasn’t necessary. “Sometimes you make things too complicated,” said the Portuguese, aware that such artificial controversies did not come his way in his homeland. “It was nothing, a simple thing to say hello to one of the commentators. And I was with Roy Keane, who is a real star.”

If this is a sign that his focus remains on football, there will be another new experience for Amorim on Thursday: a first game at Old Trafford with the visit of Bodo/Glimt
