Businesses in Omaha announce closures Friday due to icy conditions

Omaha-area businesses are announcing delayed starts and delays following Friday’s winter weather

ANGELES. A perfect little storm for us. Yes, it really went in the middle, when we saw the precipitation start it went straight towards the OMAHA subway, which is an unlikely, improbable or no good route for us. Basically we now have freezing drizzle, some of the roads are just a layer of ice. IF YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE OUTSIDE, JUST STAY HOME THROUGH THE EVENING AND MAYBE INTO THE MORNING TOO. THAT’S WHY WE HAVE SUSPENDED A SWIMMING WEATHER DAY FOR THE MORNING END TOMORROW. We think it could also be tricky, at least for now. LIVE SUPER DOPPLER RADAR GIVING US OUR THREE MINUTE ADVANTAGE. Most of the precipitation is now moving as far north and east into the west-central Iowa Dennison area, as perhaps Carrroll, and continues to move north and east. So if you zoom out a little bit, the middle of the low pressure system is actually down here. As the weather shifts eastward, we will actually get more cold air and perhaps even some humidity during the overnight hours. AND THAT’S NOT REALLY A GOOD SCENARIO FOR US. We’ll show you that in a moment on Storm Predictor. BUT YOU CAN SEE THE CLOUDS AND THE KIND OF TRACK THAT THIS THING MAKES UP THROUGH THE EVENING. So the temperatures here are still below freezing at midnight. And we think we might get a little more moisture here at this time. AND SOME of it could still be a freezing drizzle. It’s 5 a.m. We still forecast 32 degrees for Omaha. Temperatures south of I-80 are likely to be warmer. YOU WILL SEE RAIN THERE. THIS WILL CONTINUE TO PUSH NORTH. At 10 a.m. it is 33 degrees, barely above freezing, and most areas north of I-80 are still below freezing at this time. BUT IF YOU ARE SOUTH OF I-80, RAIN AND PROBABLY THAT RAIN WILL STAY ON THE GROUND ALL THE WAY AND WILL NOT FREEZE AT THIS POINT. So it’s kind of a dividing line where we think if you live north of I-80 tomorrow morning, it could still be at that freezing point. Therefore, we predict there may be a little more ice in Tekamah toward Atlantic Carrroll, while perhaps just a light glaze is all you get if you live south of I-80. HERE IS OUR H&H AUTO SKYCAM. YOU CAN SEE WHERE THE JACKKNIFED SEMI IS 28 DEGREES EAST-SOUTHEAST BREEZE AT 18 MPH. It feels like 15°C outside, so it’s currently cold temperatures around 20°C. IF YOU ARE SOUTH OF I-80, A FEW AREAS ABOVE FREEZING, BEATRICE AND FALLS CITY. The rest of us will still be dealing with below-freezing temperatures. And that means ice cream tomorrow morning. HERE IS YOUR FORECAST. AND THIS IS REALLY THE COLD WE HAVE NOW. WE WARM UP A LITTLE DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. And the reason it’s a storm day is tomorrow morning, 32 degrees at 8am. If you are someone whose car gets stuck and you live in the Omaha Metro or north of I-80, I would wait until the afternoon Grab this. THE VEHICLE 37 FOR TOMORROW HIGH TEMPERATURE. So we’ll be fine again in the afternoon. WE’RE DEFROSTING. IT GETS BETTER. We won’t have icy conditions, but we’re really concerned about the commute. That’s why we made Saturday a storm day. Sunday and Monday look much better. You may have to deal with a breeze, but outside temperatures will be at least around 40°C. We’ll cool off a bit towards the middle of next week. WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY. Around the mid-30s back then, maybe even a little below freezing. BUT I HAD TO TALK ABOUT TONIGHT AND WHAT WE COULD EXPERIENCE TOMORROW MORNING. We’re really not out of the woods yet. TOMORROW MORNING COULD STILL BE VERY DIFFICULT. IF YOU CAN WAIT UNTIL
