Travis Hunter reiterates his desire to be a two-way player in the NFL

Don’t say it Travis Hunter He can’t play offense and defense in the NFL because the Heisman finalist will tell you otherwise.

The two-way star of Colorado is one of the best players in college football and excelled as a wide receiver and cornerback. He made it no secret that he wanted to excel at both in the pros.

As a projected top-10 or top-5 pick, Hunter made it clear in the latest edition of The Pivot Podcast.

“I want to play both,” Hunter said. “A lot of people told me I wouldn’t make it at the college level. In the end I did it. I know a lot of people tell me I can’t play in the NFL. And then when I end up doing it, they’ll say… I know it’s a lot to chew off. But hey, I think I can do it. I won’t say I’m the best ever, but I think I could do it. So why not go out and do it? No one else did.”

Hunter finished the regular season with 92 catches, 1,152 yards, 14 touchdowns, 12.5 yards per catch, one rushing touchdown, 32 total tackles, one tackle for loss, four interceptions, 11 pass deflections and one forced fumble.

Can he play on both sides? Hunter proved it time and time again in college. The NFL is a different beast and he knows it.

But if there’s anyone who can attest to Hunter’s abilities, it’s this one Deion Sanders.

“Call Coach Prime,” Hunter said. “He will tell you the answer. Yes, they know how I feel. I want to play on both sides. Nothing will change my mind. You can tell me all day long. No, you can’t play both sides of the ball. I will tell you again and again: Yes, I can do that. This is what I want to do. You haven’t seen me not play both sides of the ball since you’ve been watching me. So why not now?”

If anything, Hunter has a real chance to win the Heisman against guys like him Ashton Jeanty, Cam Ward And Dillon Gabriel.

“I think Travis won the Heisman,” Sanders said before pausing and then starting again. “Thank you, God, for stopping me. Because I almost said something. I think Travis won the Heisman with his performance. I think he made a lot of people realize how ignorant they were about the Thorpe.

“His performance today, what did he have? Three touchdowns, 100 yards and an interception as well as two passes broken up. Should have had another choice. Punch him right in the damn chest. I’m not happy about that, but I’m happy with him. But it’s phenomenal.”
