Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis is urging Pennsylvania residents to sign up for health insurance through Pennie by December 15th

Governor Austin Davis visited Adagio Health in Greensburg today to remind uninsured Pennsylvanians that December 15 is the deadline to enroll in health insurance, which begins January 1, 2025. Davis encouraged residents to explore their options on Pennie, Pennsylvania’s official health insurance marketplace.

“The Shapiro-Davis Administration is committed to ensuring that every Pennsylvanian has the freedom to choose their own path, and access to affordable, quality health insurance is an essential part of that freedom,” Davis said. “If you need health insurance, visit pennie.com to find the best, most affordable plan for you and your family and make sure you get it before the December 15th deadline to get the coverage from January 1st to ensure. There have been some changes in plans and costs in Western Pennsylvania, so it’s a good idea to shop around and explore your options.”

Over 430,000 Pennsylvania residents have found affordable, quality health insurance with Pennie. The open enrollment period is the only chance for individuals to secure coverage for 2025. The plans are available to those who do not receive health insurance through their employer or programs such as Medicaid or Medicare. Due to recent changes to health insurance plans in Western Pennsylvania, existing customers are encouraged to review their options to ensure they select the best plan for their needs.

“Pennie is designed for those who do not have health insurance through their job or other programs such as Medicaid or Medicare,” said Devon Trolley, Pennie’s executive director. “Health insurance is essential to protect yourself and your family from unexpected medical costs and to take advantage of preventive measures that can detect health problems early. We encourage everyone to explore their options on pennie.com before the December 15 deadline.”

Nine out of 10 Pennie customers qualify for financial assistance through tax credits, which can help reduce monthly premiums and out-of-pocket costs. All plans offered through Pennie cover essential benefits, such as hospital care, mental health services, prescriptions and maternity care.

“This is the perfect time to explore all options available, even if you already have insurance,” said Michael Humphreys, Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner. “Thanks to efforts to increase competition, Pennie offers consumers across the state more choice and better affordability.”

Tariffs and prices change annually. Those without insurance are therefore strongly encouraged to consider their options. Current Pennie participants should ensure their information, including family size and income, is up to date. Pennie recommends that those who face higher premiums in 2025 should look for cheaper, high-quality plans in their area.

While December 15th is the last day for coverage beginning January 1st, 2025, the open enrollment period runs through January 15th, 2025. Plans purchased after December 15th will become effective on February 1st, 2025.

Pennie also works closely with Pennsylvania’s Medicaid program, providing a bridge for individuals who no longer qualify for Medicaid due to an increase in income. Anyone losing Medicaid coverage should consider enrolling in a private plan with Pennie.

For more information, Pennsylvanians can visit pennie.com or contact Pennie customer service at 844-844-8040. Customer service is available during the open registration period Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
