Northern California Atmospheric River live updates: Rare tornado warning for San Francisco, flooding across the Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — The National Weather Service forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area for Saturday calls for rain and thunderstorms across most of the region.

Daytime high temperatures will mostly be in the high 50s to low 60s on the coast, in the mid 50s to low 60s on the bay, and in the mid to high 60s inland. Overnight lows will mostly be in the mid 30s to low 40s.

The North Bay and Bay Area will experience moderate to heavy rainfall with strong winds Saturday evening, according to the NWS. Strong southerly winds are possible, with speeds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts up to 55 mph.

A high wind warning is in effect for coastal areas and the East Bay Hills until 7 a.m. Saturday. Meanwhile, a rolling wind advisory is in effect for the Interior Bay Area and Interior Central Coast until 10 a.m. Saturday

Weather conditions are expected to be strongest overnight and into late Sunday morning.

Rare tornado warning issued for San Francisco

The National Weather Service lifted the tornado threat for the city of San Francisco at 6:07 a.m

The NWS initially sent a tornado warning for northern San Mateo County and parts of downtown San Francisco around 5:56 a.m.

Radar detected possible tornado conditions near San Francisco, South San Francisco and Pacifica around 5:55 a.m

The agency also reminds of possible flash floods due to heavy rains. Everyone is encouraged to remain vigilant and aware of weather conditions.
