A $1 million lottery ticket was sold in Norwood. Mega Millions jackpot increases to $740 million

A Mega Millions ticket sold in Norwood won $1 million in Friday’s drawing, while the jackpot in Tuesday’s drawing climbed to $740 million.

It was not clear Saturday who bought the winning ticket, which has not yet been claimed, a lottery official said.

The winning ticket was sold at the Norwood Central Market Gulf/Ghafour Fuel at 145 Broadway, the state lottery said in a statement. For selling the winning ticket, the store will receive a $10,000 bonus.

To claim the prize, the winning ticket must be brought to the lottery’s headquarters in Dorchester, which is open Monday through Friday, said Christian Teja, state lottery spokesman.

According to the lottery website, Friday’s numbers were 36, 43, 52, 58 and 65 with a Mega Ball number of 16. The ticket matched all five numbers but missed the Mega Ball.

The jackpot for Tuesday’s drawing is currently an estimated $740 million, which would be the eighth largest in the game’s history, with a cash option of about $342.9 million, the lottery said.

This is the 28th drawing since the last jackpot was won on September 10, which won $810 million, the statement said.

Mega Millions tickets are sold for $2 in 45 states, as well as the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
