In six days, Metro Mayor Daniel Penny has gone from sweating in a future jail cell to hanging out with the president-elect in a luxury suite.

The Marine veteran received a hero’s welcome Saturday as he attended the annual Army-Navy football game alongside future Commander-in-Chief Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

Penny, who was acquitted by a Manhattan jury on Monday in the chokehold death of NYC subway rider Jordan Neely, was Vance’s personal guest to attend the heated grudge match in the president-elect’s suite at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md. to attend.

Others in attendance at the game included Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth, Intelligence Director nominee Tulsi Gabbard, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and billionaire Elon Musk.

“Daniel is a good guy and the New York district attorney tried to ruin his life because he has a backbone,” Vance wrote on X on Friday, also referring to left-wing Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg.

“I am grateful that he accepted my invitation and hope that he can have fun and appreciate how much his fellow citizens admire his courage.”

Vance invited the 26-year-old Long Islander to the game at the Washington Commanders’ 65,000-seat home stadium, while also texting Penny’s lead attorney, Thomas Kenniff, to congratulate him on the verdict.

“We were all shocked,” Kenniff told The Post on Friday. “Danny’s first reaction was, ‘There are a lot of veterans who deserve it more than me.’ (Attorney) Steve Raiser and I responded that you would not say no to the new Vice President of the United States.”

“Danny is looking forward to participating,” Kenniff added.

Jurors acquitted Penny of involuntary manslaughter – which carries a sentence of up to four years behind bars – after a month-long trial that focused on his fatal encounter with the troubled Neely in May 2023 on an uptown F train in connection with the camera.

The verdict came days after prosecutors dismissed a more serious charge of involuntary manslaughter after the 12 jurors – seven women and five men – disagreed on the charge.

The lightning rod case has sparked fierce national debate and political division over mental illness, crime, vigilantism and race.

Vance and many other conservative politicians have publicly applauded the ruling while criticizing Bragg for imposing criminal charges on Penny.

However, many far-left politicians have called Neely’s death an unnecessary act of vigilante justice, including state Sen. Jabari Brisport (D-Brooklyn), who claimed the 30-year-old homeless man was “lynched,” and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-N.). Y), who claimed that Neely was “murdered.”

Others, including Mayor Eric Adams, argued the case showed a broken system that failed Neely and others who suffered from mental health problems or drug addictions. Adams said he “respected” the jury’s decision but would not say whether he agreed with it.

Trump has not commented publicly on the case recently, but a source familiar with the situation said he is heavily invested in the case and has continually asked for updates throughout the trial. Penny and Trump even chatted one evening while the jury was deliberating, the source added.

Throughout the trial, Bragg’s prosecutors relentlessly hammered the racial card to jurors, routinely calling Perry “the white man” and imputing racial motives to his actions — even as witness after witness confirmed that nearly everyone in the subway car was afraid of the 30-year-old had -The behavior of old Neely.

Neely – who was schizophrenic and had synthetic marijuana in his system – behaved erratically, shouting “I’m ready to die” while throwing trash at passengers and saying he wanted to kill someone, witnesses testified.

Penny held him in a chokehold for several minutes as the train moved, and officers who responded to the scene said Neely had a weak pulse when they arrived but died shortly afterward.

Neely had also previously been convicted of assaulting people in subway stations.

While Army, the American Athletic Conference champions, had an 11-1 record and Navy had an 8-3 record, Penny was able to witness one of the series’ most anticipated matchups in decades.

Both teams have become nationally relevant college football programs again this year and will play in bowl games later this month.

Entering Saturday’s contest, Navy led the series 62-55 with seven games ending in a tie. The series has been played annually since 1930 and dates back to 1890.
