An anonymous social media user, a PETA investigator, claimed that Buterball employees sexually abuse turkeys. The allegation from a 2006 investigation sparked outrage about the poultry brand days before Thanksgiving. In the video, the person says he was undercover when he saw workers sexually abusing the birds before slaughtering them.

The investigator then reveals details, claiming that employees fucked tied-up turkeys and stuck fingers into the birds’ cloacas, which they referred to as their “vaginas.” A video also surfaced on social media showing a worker roughly handling a turkey while another appears to kick the bird. “I knocked the bastard out.”

PETA launched an undercover investigation ButterballIt was used between April and July 2006 at the Ozark, Arkansas site. It was revealed that workers were committing sexual assaults against the birds.

“Nothing humane has ever happened in a slaughterhouse,” Amber Canavan, vegan campaign project manager at PETA, told Daily Mail.

The investigator’s witness report states: “A worker took a live bird and stamped on her head, crushing her skull until her head exploded. Then he laughed and wiped the blood from his leg. He also threw birds on the concrete and hit others.”

The PETA official added that the birds’ eyeballs had “popped out,” their spines had been “exposed” and their limbs had been “torn off.” “The workers at this plant clearly had no training in animal welfare – some workers even bragged about their mistreatment,” they added.

Are Butterball turkey recalled?

The FDA has not yet issued a recall.

Butterball’s answer:

According to a spokesperson, Butterball confirmed the footage and said it “does not reflect our current animal welfare policies.”
