Tulane meets Florida State for Saturday’s matinee

SUNRISE, Fla. – Tulane University men’s basketball will take to the court on Saturday afternoon, December 14th to face Florida State in the AutoNation Orange Bowl Basketball Classic in Sunrise, Florida. The match between the Green Wave and the Seminoles will take place at Amerant Bank Arena, home of the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League.

Saturday’s contest begins at 3:30 p.m. CT on the ACC Network. Fans can also catch the action live on Learfield’s Tulane Sports Network on 106.1 The Ticket and Heaven 106.7 featuring the voice of the Green Wave Corey Gloor, or streaming on the Tulane Athletics app and the Varsity Network app.

This is the 39th all-time regular season meeting between Tulane and Florida State, with the Green Wave trailing 12-26 in the series and suffering losses in each of the last three meetings. In neutral-site contests against the Seminoles, the Wave holds a 0-7 record, including a 53-72 loss in its last neutral-site game in Tampa, Florida, on December 10, 2017. The last time Tulane beat Florida State was on December 5, 1995, with a final score of 78-77 in New Orleans.

The Green Wave has a 98-196 record against current ACC teams, including 5-29 in neutral site contests. Tulane’s last win over a current ACC team came last season against Cal in a neutral-site matchup at the SoCal Challenge, when the Bears were still members of the Pac-12. The Wave won this game 84-81 on November 22, 2023 in San Juan Capistrano, California.

In its most recent time off, Tulane ended its five-game losing streak with a dominant 86-58 home win over Southern Miss on Tuesday, Dec. 10. The Green Wave set the tone by forcing a season-high 21 turnovers and turned those takeaways into 23 points on the other end. Caleb Banks scored 18 points to go and five rebounds, leading four players in double figures for the Wave. Gregg Glenn III He also recorded his second straight double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Florida State enters the match on a two-game losing streak after falling to North Carolina State 74-84 in overtime on Saturday, Dec. 7, moving to 7-3 on the season. The Seminoles have excelled defensively this season, ranking in the top 30 in blocks, steals, three-point percentage defense and forced turnovers. After 10 games, Florida State ranks 15th in the country with 10.0 steals per game and 10th with 17.0 forced turnovers per game.

The duo of Jamir Watkins and Malique Ewin are the leaders for the Seminoles so far this season. Watkins leads the team with 17.7 points per game, while Ewin adds 12.4 points and leads the team with 6.9 rebounds per game.

Following the match against Florida State, the Green Wave will return to Uptown on Friday, December 20th to complete their non-conference schedule against Dillard. The game between Tulane and the Bleu Devil is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
