Chris Evans returns for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Evans returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the film directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. Avengers: End of the World.

At this point, the role isn’t entirely clear, but sources say Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson character will also return as Captain America. Evans in the Captain America costume seems less likely. However, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he reprized Steve Rogers.

Evans recently made a cameo appearance in the highest-grossing R-rated MCU film of all time Deadpool and Wolverine, as his character from Fox/Marvel’s early childhood days, which also featuredCaptain America: Johnny Storm from the Fantastic four Films. Evans’ core character from the Disney MCU canon, Steve Rogers, was last seen in “The Russos.” Avengers: Endgame.

As Deadline previously reported, expect many OG MCU characters to return in the Russo Brothers’ latest film. As was revealed back in July at San Diego Comic-Con, Robert Downey Jr., the Iron Man, will be cast as the main villain, Dr. Doom hatches – if that’s not enough to turn a multi-universe on its head.

Evans was always skeptical as he needed a good reason to return. The new Fantastic four by Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Vanessa Kirby and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will also star Avengers: End of the World.

The Russos also previously ran the MCUs Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America Winter Soldier and Captain America Civil War. Avengers: Endgame At $2.799 billion, it is the second highest-grossing film of all time.

Avengers: End of the World will be in theaters on May 1, 2026. The Russos have Avengers: Secret Wars will take place in May 2027.

Marvel Studios had no comment.
