Jamie Foxx gets stitches after glass is thrown at him at birthday dinner

Jamie Foxx is “recovering” after receiving stitches following an alleged altercation at his birthday dinner.

After TMZ reported that the 57-year-old Oscar winner was allegedly involved in an altercation at Mr. Chow’s home in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Friday, December 13, a rep for Foxx told PEOPLE that the actor Glass was hit with a blow during the birthday party.

“Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth,” the rep said. “He required stitches and is recovering. “Police were called and the matter is now in the hands of law enforcement.”

Mr. Chow and the Beverly Hills Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for further information on Saturday, December 14.

Citing law enforcement sources, TMZ initially reported that police were called to the restaurant around 10 p.m. local time for an alleged fight inside the restaurant – adding that Foxx was involved and was no longer present by the time authorities arrived. Foxx’s name was reportedly listed in a report about the incident, according to TMZ.

Foxx – who just released his Netflix comedy special Jamie Foxx: What happened was… According to TMZ, he attended the meeting with his daughters Corinne and Anelise, as well as his ex Kristin Grannis The Daily Mail.

Foxx’s birthday dinner comes just days after the release of his Netflix special, which chronicles his medical emergency that began on April 11, 2023, and the complications that followed. In the special, Fox confirmed that he suffered a stroke on the set of Atlanta that nearly killed him Back in action. He also cited a “brain hemorrhage that led to a stroke.”

On December 9, Foxx shared a “personal thank you” to his fans and supporters in the form of a video on Instagram. “I just want to jump up and say thank you to everyone who has been praying,” Foxx wrote in the caption. “It’s a blessing to be able to tell you my story in my own way… I hope the jokes make you laugh and I hope the story inspires you.”

He concluded: “It’s been a hell of a journey.”

In the clip itself, Foxx added that he “haven’t officially been on stage in 18 years” and described how the audience in “Atlanta made me feel like I hadn’t lost a step.”

“Get your popcorn!” “Let’s go on this ride, let’s listen to this story, let’s laugh, let’s cry if we have to, because I know I did,” he said. “But my tears now are tears of joy because I don’t think I would be able to do this.”

Following the release of his special, Foxx is eyeing a January 17 Netflix release Back in actionalso with Cameron Diaz. He also co-wrote and directed the comedy All-Star Weekendwith Jeremy Piven, Robert Downey Jr., Eva Longoria and others.
