Multiple Injured, ‘Significant Damage’ Reported After Tornado Hits California

According to the National Weather Service, a tornado hit Scotts Valley around 1:40 p.m. Saturday. Several people were injured in the tornado. A battalion chief was caught in the “weather event” and his vehicle was picked up, CAL FIRE told KSBW. “He was taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution, but he is doing well.” The event took place on Mount Hermon Road near Target. Scotts Valley Police have closed the road in all directions between Scotts Valley Drive and Lockewood Drive. The road will be closed overnight and is expected to reopen in the morning.
