Rain and snow will move in this evening

The latest from Storm Team 5…

A low-pressure system is moving into the mid-Mississippi River Valley with moisture moving out ahead of the warm front. Snow showers moved into Fond Du Lac County around 4:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon and continue north through the area. Temperatures in the Fox River Valley are right at or above freezing, so access to snow-covered roads appears to be difficult, which is good news, but the roads could still get slippery. For most of our counties, we have issued a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY from the National Weather Service indicating the possibility of a slippery journey. The period of validity of the notice varies depending on the district:

  • Brown, Calumet, Fond Du Lac, Kewaunee, Green Lake, Marquette and Manitowoc until 12 p.m. Sunday

  • Outagamie, Shawano, Waupaca, Waushara until 6 a.m. Sunday

  • Langlade, Marinette, Menominee until 9 a.m. Sunday

As we progress this evening and overnight, I expect temperatures to rise, so the Fox Valley and Lakeshore should experience a rain event. In areas north of Green Bay where the cold air seems to be a bit persistent, expect snow to continue with some ice mixing in. Snow totals should stay under an inch and we could see a layer of ice forming. So watch out for slippery driving, especially north and west of the valley.

This system will taper off overnight and we should be dry before dawn tomorrow morning. As winds ease and moisture levels are low due to melting snow and ice as well as recent rain, areas of fog are expected Sunday morning. Clouds will remain low throughout the day, so some drizzle or fog cannot be ruled out. Highs will reach the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Watch as a system brings a few showers early Monday morning. Highs will reach the 40s again Monday before colder air moves in and winds pick up. There will be a rapid downward movement overnight on Tuesday, and a few flakes cannot be ruled out. Watch for the possibility of some snow accumulating late Thursday into Friday.
