Chris Rock is hosting for the fourth time

Hello Conehead Nation, this is it SNL in review: The extravagant summary of the 50th anniversary season. (The name is patent pending.) The next part of this season conjures up another ghost Saturday Night Live Past – and in keeping with recent guest appearances by Dana Carvey and David Spade – it’s about someone from the so-called Bad Boy era. Yes, Chris Rock has returned for his fourth stint as host. Veteran readers of this column will note that he hosted the Season 46 premiere in-studio. Of course, Rock has experienced some turmoil in his career and personal life since then. Will this be material for our lovely monologue?

Former cast member Siobhan Fallon Hogan first met Rock during her season on the show and noted that he’s “an all-around great guy – hilarious and extremely supportive of me and other cast members.”

Gracie Abrams is the musical guest tonight. Scroll down for more!

Opened cold

Sarah Sherman is Nancy Grace, who is perfect for YouTube. I love Sherman’s goofy version of “Grace,” a different take from what Ana Gasteyer, Amy Poehler, Abby Elliott and Noël Wells have previously done with their take on the conservative host.

Great punch line about Grace’s fixation on Jon Benet – and I laughed hard at the accidental interruption by Marcello Hernandez. This is a hilarious parody of Grace and her “fall from grace” from a reputable television network. It is also a commentary on internet culture and the reaction to the arrest of Luigi Mangione. Emil Wakim is a great Luigi doppelganger – it was a mixed week for him.

That was a great cold – please be careful! Probably the top 3 of the season for me. Very funny!

monologue

Rock praises Lorne Michaels for 25 great seasons of SNL! Then he disparages Jonah Hill’s looks! He also brings to light Luigi Mangione with the biting line: “Sometimes drug dealers get shot.” Wow.

Diddy, Kamala Harris, Mike Tyson – Rock says it’s been a bad year for black Americans. “Who will he fight next, Morgan Freeman?” he asks about YouTuber/boxer Jake Paul, who defeated Tyson. Next: He attacks Trump by attacking former presidents like Bill Clinton. His sentence about Elon Musk and the deportation of people caused a huge outcry. I think that line about the rocket ship caused a problem at a recent performance. Fallon Hogan comments that Rock’s “performance is awesome because he’s fearless.” Agreed, that was a good set.

Santa Clauses in the mall

A mall elf (skirt) introduced a challenging game for two parents and their young daughter: Which Santa Claus would they like to take a photo with? Two options: a black Santa (Devon Walker) and a white one (James Austin Johnson). I understand the premise here, but it seems a bit strained to me – I don’t think taking a photo with a Santa in a mall and his ethnicity is relevant to most people. But the satirical aim is to anger upper-class white people, as well as Chloe Fineman’s politically correct mother.

Secret Santa Claus

A secret office Santa gets silly! Mikey Day gives his colleague (Rock) a funny gift: he puts his picture on an app and turns him into one Simpsons Cartoon. He becomes obsessed and wants to develop (increasingly dark) ideas around a hypothetical episode involving him. It will be complex. I actually love this storyline, it’s very reminiscent of season 17.

I believe Rock was a plot point during one Simpsons Follow once. And of course Harry Shearer was there SNL!

Short film

Mikey Day’s grandfather died. He goes into his garage and wants to clean it out together with his neighbors. They discover his 1950s car, Kirby. It’s magical! And racist. And not to mention sexist. Inspired by Christine, it even looks like John Carpenter’s film set.

Funny ending. Check this out if you like this description!

The Return of Charlie

A recurring sketch! Charlie (Kenan Thompson) returns to apologize for his behavior at the recent Christmas party. We’ve seen this “sweet old” naughty character a few times. As always, it’s a sketch about two company employees who lose their jobs due to sexual harassment. While it’s fun to watch two legendary black performers compete against each other in the same picture, I’m not sure I needed it again. Kenan is obviously great.
