Electric vehicle caused large house fire; “First large-scale incident” in Chattanooga

An electric vehicle was responsible for a large house fire on Frazier Avenue in Chattanooga last month, which the fire department said was the “first major incident involving an electric vehicle” in the Scenic City.

According to a release sent out Friday by the Chattanooga Fire Department (CFD), the fire at 417 Frazier Avenue was ruled an accident.

In the early hours of November 22nd, two other vehicles burned next to the electric car and most of the cars in the garage suffered heat damage.

CFD released body camera footage showing cooperation between police and firefighters in a tense situation. In their publication it says

Residents passed along vital information to police, and officers passed that information on to search and rescue teams. You can also see and hear the compassion of first responders on the ground as they help people fleeing their smoke-filled homes in the middle of the night.

Check out the body camera footage:

First responders worked together to ensure everyone was safe and additional firefighters were stationed at the rear of the building.

The fire also damaged a Portuguese restaurant – Bela Lisboa. A co-owner of that restaurant, Gabe Duncan, told us at the time that it would likely be weeks before he could reopen.
