Sabrina Carpenter was “convinced” that Paul McCartney was her “future husband” after hearing this Beatles song as a child

Paul McCartney has been married to his wife Nancy Shevell since 2011. But there was a point where Sabrina Carpenter thought she might have had a chance with the “Hey Jude” musician.

In an interview on the December 12th episode The Late Show with Stephen ColbertThe “Espresso” singer recalled hearing a certain Beatles song as a child and “falling in love” with McCartney.

“When I was very, very young, my father played me ‘Rocky Raccoon’ for the first time and I was so fascinated by that song and the songwriting that I fell in love with Paul McCartney,” said Carpenter, 25, of the 82-year-old year member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

“I was convinced that was my husband, my future husband,” she added. “But he was quite old and I was so young. I didn’t understand that he was much older than me because I looked at all those photos.”

At the time, Carpenter thought McCartney was “young” and “only about ten years older than me.”

“I didn’t understand math,” she joked. “I was a child.”

Earlier this year, Carpenter had the opportunity to meet McCartney at the 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony honoring Jon Bon Jovi ahead of the recent Grammy Awards, and they posed for a photo together.

“I just had tears in my eyes, and he was just so normal and casual and so charming,” he recalled Short and sweet Musician. “It felt like I was entering an alternate universe… like the Upside Down vibes? So.” Stranger Thingsbut much happier than Stranger Things.”

Carpenter added that she felt McCartney made everyone in the room feel “seen and heard.”

In an interview with Vogue Arabia Earlier this week, the former child star revealed that her hit song “Espresso” made Spotify Wrapped’s top artists list this year.

“It’s funny because when I first saw mine, my first reaction was, ‘Oh, damn, I can’t post this because I’m on my own list. That’s a little conceited,” Carpenter told the outlet.

“Then I thought, it’s probably a good thing that I’m on my list and listening to my own music because that means I suck at what I do,” she said. “But the others were Dolly Parton, ABBA, Kacey Musgraves and the Bee Gees.”
