Wintry mix and ice are possible for the Lehigh Valley Sunday through Monday

The Lehigh Valley could see a layer of snow and ice early Monday as a high-pressure system sweeps across the region Sunday evening, National Weather Service forecasters said Saturday.

Slippery and dangerous driving conditions are expected Monday morning after snow transitioned into a wintry mix overnight, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Meteorologists said Saturday that snow is expected to begin Sunday night into Monday morning, followed by freezing rain and sleet as temperatures rise.

Little to no ice is expected Sunday evening, but freezing rain and sleet will move in with accumulations of less than an inch by Monday morning.

Parts of northwestern New Jersey could see up to an inch of snow and a dangerous layer of ice Sunday night into Monday, making for a slippery morning commute to start the work week.AccuWeather.com

The heaviest precipitation is expected for areas east of Route 81 and north of I-78, the National Weather Service said Saturday morning, although wet conditions are expected across the region from Reading north to Mount Pocono Sunday through Monday.

As we continue Monday into Tuesday, snow and rain will be followed by warmer temperatures, with rainfall and highs reaching up to 40°C.

A cold but sunny day is expected for Saturday, with increasing cloudiness until the evening and a low of 18 degrees.
