Ruben Amorim sayssmiling that the decision to leave out Rashford and Garnacho was due to what he had seen from them in terms of “training, performance (and) engagement with teammates”, which at first glance feels damning.

We tried to evaluate everything – training, performance, game performance, engagement with teammates. When we analyze the players and try to select them, everything is at stake. It’s my choice. I don’t want to send a message, it’s just a review. Everyone understands my decision.

“It’s just a simple choice” 💬

Meanwhile, Jonathan Wilson wrote about Ruben Amorim’s role at Manchester United:

There was a moment, around 5.30pm last Saturday, when there seemed to be a real danger that Manchester United could transform into a serious football club. But it only took two minutes and the sight of Nikola Milenkovic towering over Lisandro Martínez caused that façade to collapse. Two more strange goals later – the kind of accidents that show profound negligence – and it was clear that the era of jokes still has some time to go.

That was just the beginning. The next morning Dan Ashworth had left the club by mutual consent: five months of gardening leave followed by five months of actual work, a truly great piece of lively satire, even taking into account the compensation United had to pay Newcastle to secure him and the high one Payout he must have received.

I read something before the game For you starting with this article by Tom Bassam about Pep Guardiola’s derby record.

Marcus Rashford played all 15 of Manchester United’s Premier League games this season, but that streak ends today: he and Alejandro Garnacho, who have made 22 league starts between them, were left out of the matchday squad by Ruben Amorim.

Hello World!

It’s the fifth-best team in the Premier League against the 13th, a team that would draw level with Liverpool in the all-home league table if they win – only trailing Brentford – against a team that has only beaten a team away from home all season in the league, and that was Southampton three months and a day ago. None of this sounds very exciting.

But it’s hard to imagine a more exciting Manchester derby in recent memory. It may have come too soon for Ruben Amorim’s tenure as United manager and the results – one win in his four league games so far, three in six if you include the Europa League – suggest he has not yet turned the corner . But at the same time, we don’t know what Big Derby Energy might do to them, and it gives them courage to know that this Manchester City team is currently worse (in form and in transition) than most teams in the Premier League. Amorim has experienced this first hand, having led Sporting Lisbon to a blowout 4-1 win over City in the Champions League early last month (although that was a very strange game that I think City should have won). Added to this is City’s defensive injury crisis, which is exacerbated by Rico Lewis’ suspension. “The soul and spirit of this team are there,” says Pep Guardiola. “We have to focus on ourselves because we too are not at the level we want to achieve and therefore cannot think about the dynamics of others,” says Amorim. “We just have to think about ourselves.”

Anyway, enough of that. It’s a derby, and it’s bigger than usual. Welcome!
