The Chicago Bears will be in the Thanksgiving spotlight for the first time in three years, wearing special jersey patches honoring an NFL legend.

The Bears will join the Detroit Lions, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers and Miami Dolphins in wearing the special patches to honor the life and legacy of legendary coach and broadcaster John Madden, who became synonymous during Thanksgiving football Thanksgiving football became his life.

According to the Associated Press, Madden will be honored during all three games on Thursday, including the opener between the Bears and Lions at Ford Field in Detroit as part of the John Madden Thanksgiving Celebration.

Madden became a legendary host during his years at CBS and Fox, hosting a total of 20 Thanksgiving games between the networks. He established many traditions that have continued through the years, including awarding turkey legs to the winning team’s best players.

That tradition continues Thursday night on NBC when the Dolphins and Packers face off at Lambeau Field. In addition to the turkey legs, the iconic Madden Cruiser, which the network used to travel to games because of his fear of flying, will also be on display at Lambeau Field and will be the subject of an NBC tribute to the network’s legacy.

The Bears and Lions kick off at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The Cowboys and Giants follow at 3:30 p.m. and the nightcap between the Dolphins and Packers begins at 7:20 p.m
