Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens rejuvenates himself with a new haircut

One of the Baltimore Ravens’ biggest stars will look very different when the team takes the field on Sunday against the New York Giants.

Standout running back Derrick Henry, who is enjoying a great first season in Baltimore, made a big change in the team’s bye week, cutting off his iconic dreadlocks and now sporting cornrows. Henry has had his iconic haircut since his college days, so seeing him with a new one is definitely unsettling, even if he already looks good on his own.

For Henry, it’s not just a cosmetic change, but one that he believes could help him on the field as well. When asked about his new haircut on Thursday, Henry said he felt “lighter” and had less hair to worry about.

“I just wanted to make a change,” Henry said. “I always wanted to do it and finally did it.”

Of course, Henry isn’t the only Raven who feels refreshed after saying goodbye. The entire team finally had the chance to get some much-needed rest, and with three games coming up in 11 days, that rest came at a great time.

“Everyone is full of energy. Everyone is happy to be back,” Henry said. “(We) had a great bye week – we were just able to reset – and I know we definitely miss playing football, but (it’s) great to be able to fly around again and (we’re) ready to play this week.”

Henry has a reputation as one of the best closers in the league, not just during games but throughout the seasons. His career stats continue to improve as the season goes on, although he doesn’t necessarily care.

“The players I played with did a great job and they made my job easier,” Henry said. “For me to do my job, the guys at the top have to do a great job and (I give them) credit. “That’s happened in the past, but (I’m) just focused on now.”‘ I know there’s that December thing, but I’m just focused on playing better, getting better and being the best player be who I can be to help this team.”
