Giants go for fourth QB after Tommy DeVito exits with concussion

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The New York Giants lost a quarterback for the third time in four games after Tommy DeVito left Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens with a concussion in the first half.

Tim Boyle replaced DeVito with Drew Lock, who was only available as an emergency third-string option. The Giants chose DeVito as the starter this week as Lock struggled with heel and left elbow injuries. He was in a boot earlier this week.

DeVito, making his second start this season, completed 10 of 13 passes for 68 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions before taking several big hits on a touchdown drive late in the first half against the Ravens. Baltimore’s Nnamdi Madubuike was called for roughing the passer, and DeVito then took a couple of sacks before Devin Singletary ran the ball in for a 3-yard score.

DeVito remained in the game for the remainder of the drive, but when the Giants got the ball back, Boyle came into the game for the final snap of the half. DeVito was evaluated for a concussion. After halftime, it was announced that DeVito would be out due to the concussion.

The second-year quarterback was an instant sensation last season, winning three straight starts as an undrafted free agent rookie. But he came into this season ranked third behind starters Daniel Jones and Lock.

The struggling Giants have since benched and dropped Jones, started DeVito and Lock, and are now on to their fourth quarterback of the season in the recently signed Boyle.
