Why Barcelona decided not to take part in the Golden Boy ceremony this year – report

According to a recent report from Alex Pintanel (h/t FCB World), Barcelona have made the decision to skip the Golden Boy awards ceremony in Italy due to several logistical issues with the organizers.

The awards, presented by Italian newspaper Tuttosport, were intended to highlight Barcelona’s achievements, with the club’s players nominated for several prestigious awards.

Players such as Lamine Yamal and Vicky Lopez were both selected for the men’s and women’s Golden Boy awards, recognizing them as the best U21 footballers in the world, while Aitana Bonmati, a Ballon d’Or winner, was nominated for the Golden Boy award Woman” was selected.

However, none of these players will be present to receive their honors as Barcelona have decided not to attend the gala in Turin.

Why will Barcelona skip the ceremony?

The reason for this decision lies in a series of disagreements with Tuttosport over logistical issues.

One of the main points of contention was Barcelona’s request to travel on a charter flight, which the organizers rejected in favor of a regular commercial flight.

Additionally, Tuttosport informed the club that Turin airport would be closed after the ceremony, meaning the team would be forced to spend the night in the city.

Given that Barcelona’s first team has an important game against Atletico Madrid just days later, the club didn’t feel comfortable spending the night out of town.

Because of this, they decided not to take part in the event as it would have disrupted their preparation for the game.

Barcelona feel that Tuttosport made the situation more difficult instead of listening to their needs, which led to their final decision to skip the ceremony.

As a result, without the presence of Barcelona and its three award-winning players, the Golden Boy event will likely lack star power, representing a significant loss to the event’s overall appeal.
