Pittsburgh Steelers lose star WR for Eagles game

The Pittsburgh Steelers released their final injury report ahead of a Week 15 road game against the Philadelphia Eagles. It confirmed that wide receiver George Pickens (hamstring injury) will not be fit for a second straight game on game day.

The 23-year-old star did not take part in training all week, meaning the decision on his playing assignment was not yet foreseeable.

After missing a single game in his rookie and sophomore seasons in 2022 and 2023, respectively, Pickens was sidelined for the first time in his NFL career in Pittsburgh’s win over the Cleveland Browns last weekend.

During his press conference Tuesday afternoon, head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that the injury occurred after practice last Thursday. While Pickens was listed as “questionable” in the Steelers’ final report before the game against Cleveland, there was optimism that he would ultimately be able to play after warmups.

However, as we know, it didn’t quite work out that way. As the team discovered, Pickens’ status would not have allowed him to complete his regular workload, and Pittsburgh opted to sit him out for the day rather than risk aggravating his injury.

An MRI then revealed that the receiver’s hamstring was in worse condition than originally thought, confirming a report by Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he had suffered a second-degree strain.

It is currently unknown when Pickens might return. However, the Steelers’ schedule becomes more difficult as they prepare to conclude the regular season, as they will face the Baltimore Ravens on the road in Week 16 before battles with the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati in Weeks 17 and 17 Bengals return to Acrisure Stadium 18 or
