Trey McBride sets new Cardinals record for catches by TE

GLENDALE — Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride has set a new franchise record.

With his 82nd grab of 2024 in the second quarter against the New England Patriots on Sunday, the third-year pro surpassed his previous record for catches by a Cardinals tight end in a single season (81).

The six-yard catch came with 50 seconds left in the first half.

The reception helped give Arizona one final score before halftime, a 35-yard field goal by Chad Ryland.

At halftime, McBride is up to two catches for eight yards.

McBride has been as consistent as can be for Arizona this year.

Coming into Sunday’s game, the tight end had already set a career-high in receiving yards with 851 on 80 catches (106 targets).

The only thing missing from McBride’s stats in 2024?

Get touchdowns!

Despite being the Cardinals’ best pass catcher for 14 weeks, McBride still doesn’t have a receiving score in 2024.

That didn’t stop him from leaving the end zone, however, as McBride scored as a runner that year and was slow to recover. Only he and offensive lineman Jonah Williams can claim the latter.

James Conner moves up Arizona’s record book

In addition to McBride, running back James Conner’s name also entered the record books.

With his 71 yards in the first half, Conner now ranks fifth in franchise history with 3,508 yards. He did that in 55 games.
