Last summer we informed you that Realty Income Corporation was looking to sell its 7-acre property at 20000 Century Blvd in Germantown, which is currently home to the Regal Germantown movie theater. A theater official has confirmed that Regal will permanently close its Germantown location on Sunday, December 1st. The Rockville and Silver Spring locations will continue to operate normally.

The theater opened 22.5 years ago, in May 2002, as part of the Hoyts Cinema. Less than a year later, in March 2003, Regal acquired a total of 52, 554-screen Hoyts theaters in exchange for approximately $100 million in cash, 4.8 million shares of Regal Entertainment Group Class A common stock and the assumption of certain capital leases. This also included the Germantown, MD location, which has since operated under the name Regal

The listing states: “Located on Century Boulevard just off Germantown Road and Route I-270, the site comprises a total of 7.01 acres (305,355 square feet) on two parcels. The property includes a 58,782 square meter, two-story cinema complex. Built in 2002, the building is currently leased to Regal Cinemas until September 30, 2024, and will roll over on a month-to-month basis thereafter. The footprint of the structure occupies approximately 20% of the property, with the remainder consisting of a surface parking lot with a total of 587 spaces.”
