The series finale is titled “Life is a Promise,” and the logline states that after the shocking death of Kevin Costner’s character John Dutton, “the fate of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch is revealed.”

What happened to John Dutton?

Due to the Hollywood strikes, there was a long break between 5A and 5B. Costner left the series in June after speculation about an ongoing feud with Sheridan. His character, John Dutton, was killed by a hitman in the first episode of 5B and it was made to look like a suicide.

Viewers later learned that Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri), the girlfriend of John’s son Jamie (Wes Bentley), had hired the hitman to take out John. But the deaths at the range didn’t end with John.

While the flagship series is expected to be abandoned, Sheridan has a slew of Yellowstone spinoffs in the works.

There’s one by Michelle Pfeiffer called “The Madison,” which also stars Matthew Fox, Kurt Russell and Patrick Adams, while others include “1883,” starring real-life married country duo Tim McGraw and Faith Hill; a prequel by Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford entitled “1923”; and “6666,” pronounced “Four Sixes”; and one by Matthew McConaughey titled “2024.” Deadline recently confirmed that there is also a spin-off focused on Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton!
