DETROIT, MI (WKBW) – Josh Allen was the betting favorite to win the NFL Most Valuable Player award heading into Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. But with his 431-yard, four-touchdown performance against the Lions, he may have already secured the award with three games to go. Allen’s big day helped the Bills to a 48-42 win over the Lions, improving the Bills’ record to 11-3 on the season.

“We felt like one way to beat these guys was to score points,” Allen said after the win against Detroit. “That was our mindset. If we had to score 21 points to win, we would have tried to score 21 points, but we go out there on every single drive and repeat what I said before: Just win the game.”

“Winning against any team in the NFL isn’t easy, so we don’t take it for granted,” Bills head coach Sean McDermott said. “I think when you talk about today’s game and some of the other games, you’re talking about rare air with the best teams there are right now. We have to play like this every week in the future.”

Allen and the Bills’ offense have played at a ridiculous pace over the past few months. Buffalo has scored 30 or more points in its last eight games.

But the last month has been particularly impressive for Allen. Against four playoff teams last season, the Bills quarterback threw for 1,114 yards, ran for 225 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. During those four games, Allen threw one interception.

“Man, Josh is the best player in the league,” cornerback Taron Johnson said after the game. “It’s special because I really feel like he’s unstoppable and having a quarterback like that is extremely helpful to our team.”

“The guy is unbelievable, it’s hard to describe what he does consistently every Sunday,” tight end Dawson Knox said. “This guy is so much fun to play with. It’s really a privilege and I hope I can play with him for as long as possible.”

Allen makes history and has the Bills in a fantastic position with three games remaining. This season is all about winning a Super Bowl, and with Allen playing the way he has been, that seems like a very real possibility.
