Edelweiss: Cuba connection remains intact

Edelweiss: Cuba connection remains intact

While the EDA is adjusting the travel advice and Condor is suspending flights to Cuba, Edelweiss is sticking to its flight plan to Cuba and continuing its connections as planned.

The combination of the ongoing economic crisis and natural disasters in Cuba led to the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) adjusting the travel advice for the country at the beginning of December. Nevertheless, Edelweiss continues to fly to Havana, as Aerotelegraph writes.

The most important thing in brief

  • Edelweiss continues to hold on to the Cuba connection
  • The airline is feeling a rejection of demand from Swiss travelers
  • To achieve this, more European passengers are switching to the Edelweiss flight in Zurich

Summer flights 2025 to Havana not yet updated

About a week ago, the German airline Condor announced that non-stop connections to Cuba would be canceled from the 2025 summer flight schedule. So far, the holiday airline has flown from eleven cities, including Berlin, Munich and Hamburg, to Havana, Varadero and Holguín. Edelweiss is also feeling a “decline in demand on Cuba flights”. Nevertheless, the Swiss airline is sticking to flights to Havana. The airline is reporting an increasing number of transfer passengers from Europe.

In addition, compared to the previous year, we are transporting fewer guests from Switzerland and more guests from Europe.

Condor’s decision is due to the Caribbean island nation’s growing economic problems. Frequent, nationwide power outages and ongoing supply bottlenecks characterize the current situation.
