Dolphins update on WR Grant DeBuose after Texans game

Grant DuBose is on the road to recovery but will not return to South Florida with the Miami Dolphins on Sunday night.

According to Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, DuBose will remain overnight at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston for further evaluation after being returned from hospital for a head injury sustained in Sunday’s 20-12 loss to the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium Place was brought.

McDaniel said there was “positive feedback” after the first head and neck imaging, but medical staff preferred to stay another night.

The 23-year-old DuBose collided with Texas rookie defensive back Calen Bullock while trying to make a catch in the third quarter. He remained motionless on the field for approximately 11 minutes while receiving medical attention from outside personnel.

During the transport, DuBose’s helmet and face mask were removed while his jersey was cut off. He also wore a neck brace before being placed on a spinal board and strapped to a stretcher for immediate transport to hospital.

“When you see a guy down on the field like that, it’s very hard to tell and we’re just praying that he’s OK and that he recovers as quickly as possible,” Texnas coach DeMeco Ryans said.

Bullock, who recorded his fifth career interception, was penalized for unnecessary roughness for hitting a defenseless receiver on the play.

“I was praying he would be OK,” Bullock said after the game. “I wasn’t trying to go out there and not hurt anyone.”

DuBose was recently named to the active injured reserve roster in place of former All-Pro Odell Beckham Jr., who was released after mutually agreeing to part ways with the AFC East franchise. He had one catch before exiting Sunday’s contest.

The Texans, who won their second straight AFC South Division title, expressed their condolences to the DuBose family and the Dolphins players affected by the hit.

“Hopefully it’s nothing serious,” Texans receiver Nico Collins said. “Everyone hands over him and his loved ones. We don’t want to see anyone on the field. We know how much time, blood, sweat and tears go into this game.

“I pray for him and his loved ones. A speedy recovery.”
