Kristaps Porzingis offers update after exiting Celtics-Wizards game

Kristaps Porzingis left the Celtics’ game against the Washington Wizards in the second quarter and did not return in the second half due to right heel pain.

While Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla simply said after the game that Porzingis was in “good spirits” after Boston’s win, the big man himself gave a much more detailed update.

“In the first quarter I turned my heel a little bit and kept playing,” Porzingis told reporters, as seen on NBC Sports Boston’s postgame show. “To be honest, it wasn’t anything big. More of a precautionary measure. It was pretty sensitive. I told the medical staff and they just took me out of the game. I don’t think it’s anything big.”

Porzingis returned to the court just a few weeks ago after missing the start of the season while still recovering from summer foot surgery. He put together one of his best games since returning to the lineup before exiting early. In 11 minutes, Porzingis was 5 of 6 from the field and scored 11 points, helping the Celtics build a double-digit lead in Washington.

The good news for the Celtics is that Boston is off until Thursday, when the Chicago Bulls come to town for a game at TD Garden and will give Porzingis three days off. And that the injury has nothing to do with the fact that he had to take a break earlier in his career.

“I think I should be fine next game,” Porzingis said. “We’ll see. We have three or four days off, so we’ll see.”
