Actor dies during a Christmas carol performance

Veteran stage actor Julien Arnold died after a medical emergency on stage during a performance of A Christmas story at the Citadel Theater in Edmonton, Canada.

Arnold, who died on Sunday, was 59 years old Edmonton Journal, It noted that he played the role of the cheerful Fezziwig, Scrooge’s mentor who was the opposite of his miserly apprentice. According to the Citadel’s website, he also played the role of Marley and other ensemble roles in this production.

According to CBC, paramedics were called to the scene and attempted resuscitation, but Arnold died in the operating room.

The Citadel announced his death on Instagram, but did not provide any information about the cause of death.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the sudden passing of Julien Arnold, a beloved actor and dear friend of the Citadel Theatre,” the caption reads. “A valued member of the Edmonton theater community, Julien was a gifted performer whose charisma and talent graced our stage in countless productions, including A Christmas story. Julien’s death is a profound loss for his family, friends, Carol Company colleagues, Citadel employees and the Edmonton community he loved so much. His presence brought joy, heart and depth to every role, and his artistic contributions – and warm embraces – will be sorely missed.”

The theater added that this season’s run was over A Christmas story Arnold will be dedicated to his memory and that a GoFundMe page has been set up to help his widow Sheiny and the various costs associated with the funeral and other expenses.

The Citadel also released several photos of Arnold’s performances in his productions over the years, including previous appearances by A Christmas song, in which he held various roles. He also depicted festivals in Twelfth Night, the cowardly lion in The Wizard of Oz, Cogwsorth in Beauty and the Beast, In below A Midsummer Night’s Dream and there in Once. Other Citadel credits include: Let me love; One man, two governors; SSense and sensuality; Evangeline; SPamalot; And Traveling with my aunt.

According to his biography on the Canadian Theater Encyclopedia website, Arnold grew up in Edmonton and graduated from the University of Alberta in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts. In 2006, he earned a master’s degree in fine arts in directing from the University of Alberta.

Arnold was a founding member of Free Will Players, a non-profit, professional theater group that produces the Freewill Shakespeare Festival in Edmonton each summer. He also founded his own company, the Atlas Theater Collective, for which he directed and starred in several productions.

He also appeared in the world premiere of Cat Walsh’s play for Workshop West Theatre, Theater Network, Northern Light Theatre, Mayfield Dinner Theater and Theater Yes The laws of thermodynamics, for which he was nominated for a Sterling Award for Best Performance by a Supporting Actor. Arnold also won a Sterling Award for Best Fringe Performance by an Actor for his leading role in A Picasso at the Edmonton Fringe Festival and was an ensemble member of Teatro La Quindicina.
