Winter mix for the morning commute

Winter mix for the morning commute

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – After a cold, dry weekend, we’ll move through a weak system with some frozen precipitation early this morning.

Today is First alert weather day with a Note on winter weather Applies to Hampden County until 11 a.m. Light snow and icy drizzle cause untreated surfaces to become slippery during your morning commute. We’re expecting perhaps 1 inch of snow in the greater Springfield area, but it won’t take a lot of freezing drizzle to make everything slick, so be sure to allow a little extra time this morning. There won’t be much to see in Hampshire and Franklin counties and it will be mostly flakes with coatings.

The light mix will end by mid-morning, but clouds will remain. As the day progresses, temperatures slowly rise to over 30 °C.

A few patchy showers will move in this evening, developing into steady rain overnight as temperatures slowly rise into the 40s. If a warm front pushes through, we’ll likely expect a quarter to half an inch of precipitation.

It will slowly dry out tomorrow morning. We may see some sunshine in the afternoon and temperatures will climb into the 50s!

Wednesday looks dry and slightly cooler, with highs in the 40s. Our next weather maker comes with a wintry mix from Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Things seem to be progressing quickly here too. There will then be a colder air mass at the start of the weekend.
