Jerry Jones has no interest in the Cowboys tanking: “It’s not over yet”

FRISCO, Texas – One thing seems pretty clear about the Cowboys as they prepare for Thursday’s Thanksgiving game with the Giants and a 4-7 record:

The only form “Tank” seems interested in is getting DeMarcus Lawrence back from injury at some point.

But when it comes to “tanking” games to get a better draft pick, that doesn’t seem to concern anyone, especially owner/GM Jerry Jones.

“That never crossed anyone’s mind in this organization,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan. “Someone will say… ‘You’ve got to play for a higher draft pick, Jones.’ I understand. It’s important that we get out here and compete. Those (draft picks) will be there for us – the ones we want – when we get to the draft.”

Jones was asked about Micah Parsons’ recent post-game comments that suggested the same thing, hoping to “ruin” everyone’s idea of losing games to get a better pick.

“I loved it. I just absolutely love it,” Jones said. “Micah gets criticized for some things he says. The way he phrased it was powerful. It was a succinct statement. It’s just the way it is.”

Jones added: “I just think the game is too important. The victory is too important. … A victory is a very satisfying thing under any circumstances. He helps with construction. There’s a lot of uncertainty with these draft picks.”

Jones knows that injuries can be an excuse for any team in the league and understands the “next man up” philosophy, but also knows that this year has been an exception for his team, with half of the starting lineup playing at least one in Week 1 Missed game year.

“In the NFL, everyone uses injury as an excuse,” Jones said. “We had a big hitch this year when it came to player availability. That is beyond question. With Dak you can start at the top. A good job was done considering how we handled the unavailability of our players – and a lot of them.”

The good news for Jones and the Cowboys? Slowly but surely they are getting healthier. And it happens at an opportune time.

“We’re going to start getting a lot of it back,” he said. “You saw some of them again last weekend. You’ll see some of them again this week, and you’ll really see more next week. And that’s why we really want to take advantage of the upward trend here and get some wins.” together.
