Travis Hunter angry over attacks on his fiancée Leanna Lenee

Travis Hunter said his fiancée Leanna Lenee got drunk and cried herself to sleep after facing criticism following his Heisman Trophy win Saturday night.

Some criticized Lenee’s behavior in a video that surfaced online in which she was seen stoic on a couch while Hunter, the bi-directional star from Colorado, posed for photos during a meet-and-greet with fans at his own event.

At one point, the pair appeared to be having a serious conversation, but it’s unclear what was said.

After the Heisman ceremony, Hunter sent a stern message to critics, stating that Lenee felt hurt.

“You’ve never had a girl before, so why are you all talking about me,” Hunter, a wide receiver and cornerback for the Buffaloes, said in a live stream on Twitch. “Find someone to talk about… Talk about your girl. Go find a girl. Go find a life. Don’t worry about what I’m up to. I know what I have.

“My girl has been with me for five years. You’re just starting to talk about me… You’re going to do something different with your life. Clickbait sites stop, you better stop, I’m telling you all. Something bad will happen to all of you (if you keep doing this). You better stop it. I don’t play.

Hunter went on to explain that in the viral video – in which fans claimed Lenee looked miserable – he and Lenee were talking about his family and voting on where they would go that night.

“You’ll hate me, then you’ll hate my girl,” he said. “I feel the same as her. We are inseparable. We are together. If she’s hurt, I’m hurt (and vice versa)…she’s still sleeping. She is bulge. You know when you’re hurt you just cry yourself to sleep and be gone. She drank an excessive amount tonight for no reason.”

Hunter, who may be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, encouraged people to send positive messages to Lenee

“I don’t want her to go to sleep sad,” Hunter said. “It’s hard for me because I can’t even help her.”

Hunter and Lenee announced their engagement in February after going public with their relationship in 2022.

In his Heisman Trophy speech, he thanked his fiancée.

“I never thought I would be in this position,” Hunter said, according to NFL.com. “It’s crazy. Your faith will take you far. It’s really crazy, man. Thank you, thank you, thank you. First of all, I would like to thank my fiancée and my mother. They have been with me since my first surgery in my first year of college. You haven’t moved a step away from me. All the hard hours. All the hard days. The whole time I didn’t want to wake up and didn’t even want to answer the phone and watch football, you all stayed with me. I am very grateful to all of you.”

Another video from Sunday showed Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders appearing to tell Lenee to stand and applaud Hunter as he was announced as the Heisman winner.

Lenee’s Instagram profile has since been changed to private.

This wasn’t the first time fans put the couple’s relationship in the spotlight.

In early December, another video showed Lenee appearing upset with Hunter after his outstanding performance in Colorado’s 52-0 win over Oklahoma State in the regular season finale.

Lenee addressed this on her Instagram, explaining that the moment was taken out of context.

“By the way, these pictures were taken 30 seconds after this clip. Please remember that social media is not real and 5 seconds is not enough to understand a situation,” Lenee wrote, according to the Daily Mail. “You never know what a person can handle mentally. Thank you, baby, for always trying to cheer me up. You truly are the best partner a girl could ever ask for.”

Hunter beat out Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, Miami quarterback Cam Ward and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel for college football’s most prestigious award on Saturday.

Hunter finished the regular season with 92 receptions for 1,152 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Hunter is expected to play in the Alamo Bowl against BYU before becoming one of the top picks in the 2025 NFL Draft.
