Wireless Christmas tree light controllers sold at Walmart have been recalled by Target due to a fire hazard

(Gray News) – More than 44,000 wireless Christmas tree lighting controllers are being recalled because the wireless receiver can overheat and cause a fire, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The recalled light controls consist of two parts – a decorative lever or switch that controls the lights on a Christmas tree and a wireless receiver that plugs into an electrical outlet.

The controllers sold at Walmart and Cracker Barrel featured a green, red and white peppermint candy design with a candy cane lever. The inscription “Christmas Light Controller” can be seen on the controllers.

The controllers sold at Target were sold under the Wondershop brand and are shaped like a box in red and white with green, red and white balls. The controllers will display the words “Tree Lighting Switch”.

Mr. Christmas, the company that developed the controls, has received 10 reports of overheating, including one report of a fire. No injuries were reported.

The recalled lighting controls were sold for $25 to $40 in stores and online from July to November.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lighting controls and return them for a full refund.
