Witnessing Liam Payne’s fatal fall, haunted by the sound of his body hitting the ground

A groom attending his wedding in Buenos Aires who witnessed One Direction star Liam Payne’s fatal fall said he was haunted by the sound of the singer’s body hitting the ground.

Bret Watson was with his wedding planner in his first floor room at the CasaSur Palermo hotel when they witnessed the 31-year-old’s body in free fall, Watson told TMZ.

The “Strip That Down” singer died after falling from his third-floor balcony on October 16.

“We immediately rushed to the balcony to see what it was and when we looked down we could see it was Liam lying on the floor. “He landed face up so we could immediately tell it was Liam and he was lying motionless,” said a visibly shaken Watson.

He added that the worst part wasn’t seeing Payne fall, but hearing his body hit the hard ground below.

“It’s heartbreaking to see someone fall like that, but seeing it and hearing the impact on the ground was more powerful than watching him fall,” Watson said.

“Then when I see the immediate aftermath, it’s something that’s burned into my brain. I’ll never forget that. I’m still working on processing and understanding everything.”

The groom said he and his wedding guests also noticed Payne becoming increasingly drunk and unstable as the day went on.

But Watson’s account of Payne’s last night, in which he saw the singer being carried by his arms and legs from the lobby to his room by hotel staff, is drastically different from that of Payne’s friend Roger Nores.

Nores, who prosecutors want to charge with abandonment, insisted Payne was just a little drunk when he left him alone an hour before the fall.

The clip shared by TMZ is part of the special “TMZ Investigates: Liam Payne: Who’s to Blame?” airing Monday night on Fox.
