Yellowstone has returned for its explosive final episode on The Paramount Network and Paramount+. The finale treated fans to some long-awaited answers about what would happen to the Dutton ranch following John’s (Kevin Costner) death.

A title card appeared on the screen before the drama had even begun. It said: “This episode is dedicated to Bob Avila. See you on the dusty path, amigo.”

Bob Avila was a distinguished equestrian who died on November 9th at the age of 72. In addition to being a member of the National Reining Horse Association Hall of Fame, he was also a two-time winner of the title of World’s Greatest Horseman.

His father was a rodeo cowboy and his mother taught young children to ride, so working with the beautiful animals was always in his blood. He then bred and trained horses before passing his knowledge on to others.

Avila actually made an appearance in the third season of Yellowstone called “I Killed a Man Today”, as the series often features real cowboys.

Originally from Redwood City, Bob earned $381,339.94 in National Reining Horse Association earnings and $1,113,022.09 in National Reined Cow Horse Association (NRCHA) earnings.

After 18 years on their ranch in Temecula, he moved to Scottsdale, where he lived until his death.

Although he was in his early 70s, he was still very active in the industry, working as both a businessman and an equestrian.

During his more than 30 years of working with Professional’s Choice, he has developed an extensive range of bits and spurs.

He later shared his wisdom and became a sought-after mentor.

He offered training and advice in the form of books and videos and shared his training methods and tips with the world.

He is survived by his wife Dana Avila and son BJ Avila. His cause of death has not been publicly announced.

Yellowstone is available to watch on Paramount+
