James Gunn announces the upcoming release date of the DCU trailer Superman

James Gunn posted a motion poster teaser this morning, which led some people to believe it was a Superman trailer. But a short time later, he released a small teaser announcing that the actual Superman trailer had an actual release date: Thursday, December 19th. If it’s around the same time he’s posting stuff now, it’s 9am ET.

Here’s the teaser that Gunn just posted that I think might be overanalyzed. It’s a sort of engraved metal Superman logo. In his fortress? The Hall of Justice? Who knows.

And here’s the motion poster he put up earlier, offering a new, official look at David Corenswet’s Superman in flight.

The Superman trailer won’t reveal the film’s release date because… we already know that, even if you may have missed it. The film will be released on July 11, 2025, eight months from now, and the reason we’re getting a trailer now is because that’s not the case The far away.

This will be the main opening of the DCU, even though it has technically already begun. The first real DCU thing right now is Creature Commandos, the animated series that features remnants of Suicide Squad monsters with some characters that will eventually appear in live-action, played by their voice counterparts. One of them is Clayface, voiced by Alan Tudyk, who will soon be seen in Creature Commandos. And apparently the main role in this film. Gunn also appears to be creating large portions of his own Peacemaker and Suicide Squad canon, borrowing storylines and actors from them, although perhaps with a few exceptions (we have no idea that Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn will ever exist in this universe, for example). ). , and she seemed to move on).

The Superman trailer here will really be the defining moment of the early DCU to see what Gunn’s vision is in live action. Will it lean just as heavily into comedy as “Suicide Squad” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” or will it go for a completely new tone here?

After that, the big projects on the table are a Supergirl movie and the HBO show Lanterns. Many more series and films have been announced, but these are a long way off and are all without a cast. There’s also The Batman 2 coming, which isn’t in the DCU, but Gunn says it doesn’t even have a script yet.

I’m really looking forward to Thursday to take a look at what will hopefully be a great new era for DC where Marvel can give Marvel a run for their money. We’ll find out soon.
