The fatal victims of the shooting at a school in Wis included students and teachers

A teacher and a teenage student were the two fatal victims of the shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday, December 16, authorities said at an afternoon news conference.

Shortly before 11 a.m., police responded to an active shooter call, Chief Shon Barnes said at a news conference. They discovered that the shooter, who was simply a teenage student at the school, was deceased.

Barnes did not say how the gunman died, but suggested that police did not fire their weapons.

Six students remain hospitalized, Barnes said. Two are in critical condition with “life-threatening injuries,” Barnes said, while the remaining four’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

After the shooting, schools in Madison were placed on lockdown.

When speaking about the students’ injuries, Barnes referred to the psychological trauma of the incident, saying, “That’s just the physical injuries.”

According to the school’s website, Abundant Life Christian School was founded in 1978 and teaches grades K-12.
