A mix of snow, rain and ice impacts travel along the I-95 corridor for millions in the Northeast

NEW YORK – Millions of people across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic faced a chaotic mix of rain, snow and ice on Monday that slowed travel as the last full work week began before the busy Christmas holiday.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, the latest wave of precipitation came from the same storm system that sparked an ice storm in parts of the Midwest over the weekend.

And video shot in Pennsylvania showed snow falling from the sky in Duncansville on Sunday.

As Sunday continued and into the overnight hours, the storm eventually moved into the northeast, disrupting the Monday morning commute for millions of people.

Schools were also affected, with several districts in New York and Connecticut announcing they were closed or delaying starts due to the potentially dangerous travel conditions.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, the storm system encountered colder arctic air, allowing the messy winter mix to form.

The storm is now moving offshore into the Atlantic Ocean, causing winter weather to subside. However, some rain is still expected along portions of the I-95 corridor.

As this first round of rain comes to an end, the FOX Forecast Center continues to monitor several additional storm systems that could impact Northeast travel early in the holiday season.
