ROME (AP) — Inter Milan scored four goals in 12 minutes on either side of halftime to add a 6-0 victory to Serie A title contenders Lazio in a one-sided clash on Monday.

Lazio were unbeaten at home in Serie A and were able to keep up with Inter for most of the first half in front of their own fans at the Stadio Olimpico.

But four minutes before half-time, Hakan Çalhanoğlu gave Inter the lead from the penalty spot, and Federico Dimarco doubled the lead seconds before the break when he volleyed home Denzel Dumfries’ cross.

Lazio started the game without starting defender Alessio Romagnoli and Samuel Gigot replaced midfielder Matias Gila midway through the first half.

When Gigot was substituted at half-time, coach Marco Baroni had to reshuffle his back four, but the lack of experienced central defense was evident from the start.

Nicolò Barella made it 3-0 six minutes into the second half with a magnificent volley from 30 meters and Dumfries rose above everyone to head home two minutes later in the fourth half.

Carlos Augusto showed good footwork in the penalty area to make it 5-0 in the 77th minute, and Marcus Thuram scored his eleventh goal of the season in the final minute to add to the home side’s misery.

The result meant Inter were alone in third place, three points behind leaders Atalanta and one behind Napoli with a game to play.

Lazio remained fifth.
