At the end of the operation, FHP delivers over 150 citations to participants and spectators

ORLANDO, Fla. – This weekend, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) launched a proactive initiative to prevent a planned road takeover in Orlando. Working with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) and the Orlando Police Department (OPD), FHP Troopers coordinated ground and air communications resources. Together, authorities wanted to send a clear message to those involved in illegal street takeovers that their actions will not be tolerated in Florida.

During the operation, several locations where illegal road takeovers took place were identified. As smaller gatherings dispersed, larger ones formed, including an event at an industrial warehouse complex on Emerald Dunes Drive in Orlando. Officers and other law enforcement officers strategically came together to manage entry and exit to the complex to conduct enforcement activities for both event participants and spectators.

Florida law prohibits participation in or spectatorship of street racing, street takeovers and stunt driving as set forth in Section 316.191, Florida Statutes. After completing the detailed discussion, FHP granted/enabled the following:

  • 154 quotes (132 to watch)
  • Two criminal charges appear
  • 3 arrests
  • Several vehicles towed

FHP values working with law enforcement agencies such as OCSO and OPD to hold reckless individuals accountable and ensure the safety of Florida citizens and visitors.

If you encounter street racing, stunt driving, or a street takeover along the way:

  • Stay calm
  • Don’t engage
  • If possible, pull safely to the side of the road
  • Report it by calling *FHP or 911 and you will be immediately directed to the nearest dispatch center.
