Auburn adds second portal QB

Auburn adds another quarterback to the portal.

It’s former Stanford QB Ashton Daniels.

The announcement comes shortly after his official visit to Auburn, as Daniels began working with Hugh Freeze and the Tigers fairly quickly.

“This place is special, man,” Daniels said. “What Coach Freeze and his staff are doing with this program is very special.” The culture they implement from the top down is, I think, one of the main reasons I decided to come here. They’re taking care of it and I can tell they’re on the verge of winning a lot of games. I hope I can be fit for this offense and help them win games.”

Daniels, originally from Buford, Georgia, signed with Stanford as a three-star quarterback in the class of 2022. After his first season with limited playing time, Daniels took over the starting role in his second year.

In his first year as a starter, he completed 58.8% of his passes for 2,247 yards, 11 touchdowns and had eight passes intercepted. He also used his legs, rushing for 296 yards and three touchdowns.

This season for Stanford, he increased his completion percentage to 62.5% while throwing for 1,700 yards, 10 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His usage in the running game saw an uptick, rushing for 669 yards and three touchdowns.

Auburn’s coaching staff is a big reason why Daniels decided to transfer to Auburn.

“They’re great,” Daniels said. “You welcomed me. Just by meeting them and throughout the visit, I can tell that they care about me.” They are relationship-oriented types. They focus on the players rather than themselves. That’s hard to find in today’s college football world.”

All three of Auburn’s scholarship quarterbacks are added, while Daniels joins Oklahoma transfer Jackson Arnold and true freshman Deuce Knight in the room for 2025.

“It’s going to be competitive,” Daniels said. “The best man will come in and play.” I’m ready to compete. I’ve competed my whole life, my whole career. I’m excited to come here and be surrounded by a great group of people and make each other better.”
