Lazio Rome – Inter Milan 0-6: Lazio Rome suffers their heaviest home defeat of all time in Serie A

Defending champions Inter Milan stormed to a 6-0 win at Lazio, inflicting the Rome club’s heaviest ever Serie A home defeat.

Lazio began the evening level on points with Inter, six points behind leaders Atalanta, but had no answer to an impressive attacking display from Simone Inzaghi’s side.

Marco Baroni’s Lazio were unbeaten in 12 home games and had not lost in front of their own crowd since March. They are also at the top of the Europa League table, which shows their encouraging form.

But Lazio’s evening took a disappointing turn when Hakan Calhanoglu gave Inter the lead with a penalty for handball in the 41st minute and Federico Dimarco doubled the visitors’ lead with a volley before half-time.

Nicolo Barella scored to make it 3-0 six minutes into the second half, before Denzel Dumfries scored two minutes later and Carlos Augusto and Marcus Thuram completed the defeat late on.

Inter remain third in the standings with 34 points from 15 games and are three points behind Atalanta with a game to go.

Lazio’s previous record home defeat was a 5-0 defeat against Fiorentina in 1959.

Their three biggest defeats in Serie A all came against Inter: this defeat came after 1:8 (1934) and 0:7 (1961) in Milan.
