Diane Delano, the character actress best known for her recurring role on the popular 1990s series Northern Exposure, has died at the age of 67.

According to TMZ, the television actress died on Friday at her home in Los Angeles.

Her representative said she died after a short illness, but her official cause of death has not yet been announced.

Delano was known for the recurring role of Officer Barbara Semanski on the dramedy Northern Exposure, which ran for six seasons on CBS from 1990 to 1995.

Her most notable film work was the 2006 remake of the horror classic The Wicker Man, in which she played Sister Beech.

The Neil LaBute-directed remake, starring Nicolas Cage, was heavily panned by critics but became a cult film due to its over-the-top starring role.

She had small roles in the notable apocalyptic thriller Miracle Mile, as well as the horror film Sleepwalkers, the thriller The River Wild, the Christopher Guest mockumentary A Mighty Wind, the horror film Jeepers Creepers 2 and the Coen brothers’ black comedy The Ladykillers.

In addition to appearing in numerous television shows, Delano was also a sought-after voice actress for animated series.

She voiced characters in several episodes of the animated films Rugrats, Superman: The Animated Series, Teen Titans, American Dad, Ben 10 and Batman: The Brave And The Bold, as well as many other series.

One of her most popular film credits was the teen dramedy “Popular,” in which she played the imposing science teacher Roberta “Bobbi” Glass and her twin sister, nurse Jessi Glass.

This series aired on The WB for two seasons.

Confined to one genre, Delano appeared in popular TV dramas including “St. Elsewhere”, “Matlock”, “ER”, “Six Feet Under” and “NCIS” and many others.

However, she was most visible on comedy programs including LA Law, Growing Pains, Perfect Strangers, Thirtysomething, Doogie Howser, MD, Quantum Leap, 3rd Rock From The Sun, Mike & Molly, 2 Broke Girls and Pen15.

Delano also became involved in soap operas with nine episodes of Days Of Our Lives in 2008 and 2009, in which she played FBI agent Hilda Van Beno.

Delano was born on January 29, 1957 in Los Angeles, where she appears to have lived most of her life.

Her acting work apparently dates back to the late 1970s.

However, Delano’s first role came a few years later, in 1983, in an episode of St. Elsewhere.
